5. Heat Map<\/b><\/h2>\n

A heat map is a smart color-coded map that shows what\u2019s hot and what\u2019s not in the market at that very moment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LBU \u2013 When both price and OI go up, it is a long buildup indicating that more people are expecting the price to go up and creating long positions.<\/span><\/p>\n

SBU \u2013 When the price goes down and OI goes up, it is a short buildup indicating that more people are expecting the price to go down and creating short positions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SC \u2013 When price goes up and OI goes down, it is a short covering as rising price forces the short sellers to close their short positions.<\/span><\/p>\n

LU \u2013 When both price and OI go down, it is a long unwinding as long-term security holders are either booking profits or selling the security in anticipation of impending bearishness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Open interest is said to be a very powerful data point in futures and options.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Open Interest tells us how many contracts are open and live i.e. outstanding in the market due to delivery\/settlement or trader discretion for this call. The contract is considered \u201copen\u201d until the counterparty closes it.<\/span><\/p>\n
