Commentary:
Indian benchmark indices traded cautiously ahead of the RBI policy decision due tomorrow, with expectations that the central bank will maintain the status quo on interest rates. Trade uncertainties with the US further kept bulls from taking strong positions. The Indian rupee weakened to a record low of 88.80 against the US dollar, while persistent FII selling added to the muted sentiment. In the broader markets, midcaps and smallcaps mirrored large-cap moves and remained largely flat. Among sectors, PSU banks, metals, and energy outperformed, while media, realty, and FMCG stocks dragged. Volatility eased, with India VIX slipping 2.6%.
