Commentary:
Key benchmark indices ended lower on Monday, tracking weak global cues. Sentiment soured after the US announced a steep hike in H-1B visa fees, dragging IT stocks sharply and weighing on the rupee. Meanwhile, India’s Finance and Commerce Ministers are set to meet their US counterparts for bilateral discussions. Crude prices are also in focus over renewed European sanctions rhetoric and concerns over Russian supply. In the broader market, small- and mid-cap indices also traded weakly. Sectorally, except for media and metal, all indices ended lower, with IT and pharma bearing the major brunt, slipping 2.9% and 1.4%, respectively. Market volatility edged higher, with India VIX climbing nearly 6%.
