The world’s first microblogging website Twitter has given global citizens a platform to connect and state their perspectives on topics such as recent developments in politics, technology, and so on. Twitter has also emerged as a platform to share images, videos, and now stories that last for 24 hours known as “fleet”.
Twitter enabled Netizans to communicate throughout the day through brief messages.
Going beyond Tweets, the company has announced a platform for exclusive content and interest-driven communities.
A Walk Down the Lane
The micro-blogging service was designed in 2006 by Evan Williams and Biz Stone, both of whom worked at Google before they left to launch the podcasting venture Odeo.
Williams, who had created the popular Web authoring tool Blogger, began experimenting with one of Odeo’s side projects, a short message service, then known as Twttr.
Rightly spotting an opportunity, Williams bought out Odeo and started “Obvious Corp,” to further develop the product.
Jack Dorsey, an engineer by profession joined the team. Thereafter, the completed version of Twitter debuted at the South by Southwest music conference in Texas, in March 2007.
The following month Twitter, Inc., was created as a corporate entity, with the help of a venture capital investment.
